After the controversial 8th episode, when devoted fans of the stars were unhappy, even writing a petition, the producers decided to go the tried and least risky way - to return J.J. to the director's chair.According to Abrams, the seventh episode of Star Trek, the 3rd Mission Impossible, as well as the first two parts of Star Trek have already been noted. Abrams' approach to work can hardly be called innovative, but the director has always been able to catch up with the action, make a spectacular, but at the same time rather thoughtless and sterile movie. This approach guaranteed the producers the preservation of their investments, and the audience - another fantastic blockbuster about nothing.

Retelling the plot in this case is a thankless task, because it is of absolutely secondary importance here. That is, in general, it is present, and quite confusing, but the plot twists are NOT so much predictable as uninteresting. The rebels continue to fight the New Order, Ray tries to find out her origins, and Kylo Ren pursues her. The characters will travel from one planet to another, constantly running from someone or catching up with someone, and all this against the background of cool special effects that are really impressive. Moreover, the film provides answers to some of the questions of the previous parts of the trilogy, but it does it rather clumsily and unconvincingly. It should be said that the inability to provide adequate answers to the questions of the previous parts of the trilogy was inherent in the game even with the release of episode 7, when the authors brought back to life an already fully logically completed franchise. However, as a fan of the STAR universe, the author of this review was pleased to see the galaxy far, far away, the Jedi, Sith, Wookiee, the Millennium Falcon, etc. again, and therefore it's more good than bad that we were shown the new Star Wars. At the same time, I would like the plot to be more thoughtful, harmonious and based not only on special effects.

Heroes deserve a separate word. If with the release of episode 7 it seemed that Adam Driver, who played Kylo Ren, was the weakest link, then in episode 9 he was almost the only living person among the chaos happening on the screen. Despite the fact that there are few lines in Kylo Ren, it is his story that seems to be the most dramatic and interesting. It is thanks to the acting talent of Adam Driver, who has previously proven himself to be a good dramatic actor ("Paterson", "Marriage Story"), that emotion is present in the film. All the other characters, including the pretty but somewhat frostbitten Ray, don't even look like humans. These are some kind of nouname characters who have absolutely formulaic dialogues put into their mouths. And here, droids and some strange animals that appear for a few minutes are a hundred times more charismatic and better remembered. You actually get the most pleasure from them.

As a result, episode 9 was a rather mediocre conclusion to the saga of the Star. Unlike the classic trilogy (episodes 4-6) and the prequel about the rise of Anakin Skywalker-Darth Vader (episodes 1-3). Ryan Johnson tried to add some new ideas in episode 8, but they didn't develop these ideas in episode 9 due to the strong reaction from fans, and who knows if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

It could have been even worse. What J.J. suggested to us.Abrams, although he causes dissatisfaction on many points, is still an example of dynamic entertainment cinema. No more, no less. It would probably be naive to expect any revelations from the director in the spirit of Christopher Nolan. By itself, the possibility of returning to the universe of a galaxy far, far away is an excuse to visit the cinema again, take a break from the mundane and feel like children.
